What are lip fillers?
Contemporary aesthetic cosmetic lip treatments have evolved. There are now a variety of dermal fillers based on hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in our bodies. Being natural, these products integrate and become part of the skin. Providing very natural and long-lasting results, when administered by expert hands.
Each manufacturer offers products with various properties and uses, therefore all treatments and recommendations are bespoke. However, they all have one thing in common: they’re created in highly purified and sterile conditions.

I nearly always use a microcannula . This is safer, and in my view, likely to be much more comfortable than standard needle injections. My medical skills and experience in ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgery has given me an in-depth understanding of facial anatomy and physiology.
In other words, I know the structure of the human face and how to adapt my technique specifically. With an emphasis on form AND function, this gives better results.
Do the injections hurt?
I focus on the following 4 things to minimise discomfort:

Assuming you have no history of allergies, I’ll use a numbing cream, which is very effective.

All HA lip fillers contain lidocaine, the same anaesthetising agent used in dentistry.

I nearly always use my pioneering microcannula technique (see above) - so much gentler and with less risk of bruising than a needle.

Is it safe?
Whilst there are no such things as risk-free medical cosmetic treatments, please be assured that I have the experience and skills that you need. I’ve got over 25 years’ experience in medicine and facial surgery, and I’m a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Royal College of Physicians and Royal College of General Practitioners.
In our consultation, we’ll cover the risks and discuss everything you need to know.
Regarding follow-ups, most repeat treatments are between 6 and 12 months.
