BTX toxin (brands include Botox, Azzalure, Dysport, Xeomin), is the number one cosmetic treatment used for movement associated skin lines and wrinkles. EdenMed Aesthetics and Rejuvenation clinics in Southbourne, Bournemouth and Chelsea, London provide antiwrinkle treatments only after consutation with Dr. Sam Ghazawy MB.ChB. MRCP. MRCSEdOphth) MRCGP. Treatment with BTX toxin is a prescription only medication and we are able to prescribe it after an appropriate consultation, serving clients in the areas of Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, as well as Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Chelsea and Greater London and further afield through our Southbourne and Chelsea clinics. Dr. Sam believes that everyone who comes to see him deserves to be treated respectfully and in total confidence. Ensuring you get the best most appropriate, safest and long lasting treatment is the reason the skin smoothing consultations are 30 minutes long. You may not need the full time, especially if you are well experienced and sure of the treatment that works best for you, but having a longer appoitment time, means you are not rushed, the consultation can be very thorough and all of your questions related to the treatment can be answered.
The treatment works by relaxing the underlying muscles that contribute to skin creasing through repetitive contractions. These repetitive movements in combination with changes in skin collagen and elastin levels, develop lines and wrinkles, which are the result of normal facial expression. Botox and other branded botulinum (BTX) toxins can work to reduce those lines around our face that we would like to hold back.
It's vitally important when seeing a practitioner for treatment of lines caused by active muscle contraction that you, as the client, as well as the practitioner understand why these lines occur and what every muscle of the face is responsible for doing. Many people don't realise that muscles ONLY PULL. They never push! Why is this important you ask? Well, it's all about balance. Understanding that the only muscle in the top one third of the face that lifts is the frontalis and the the muscles that pull down are the procerus and corregators and the the obicularis oculi scrunches in, means targeting these muscles and indeed individual groups of muscle fibres within them, is what gives a natural effective result. Thus avoiding the risks of droopy eyelids and brow, staring high-arched eyebrows, or indeed toxin diffusion and double vision. Make sure you see someone, Like Dr. Sam, who fully understands facial anatomy and physiology.
BTX toxin is most commonly used for horizontal forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows and crow's feet around the eyes, although lower parts of the face around the lips and chin can also be treated. Each area of treatment is classified as one area for pricing purposes.
Over the past fifteen years BTX toxin has been used very successfully in a large number of medical conditions, from cerebral palsy in children as young as two years of age, spasticity of stroke and Multiple Sclerosis patients, migraine sufferers, bladder problems, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and in facial rejuvenation. In my own NHS practice, I have extensive experience in the use of Botox for the treatment of blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, strabismus (squint) and ptosis induction (droopy lids).
The procedure is very simple, following a full, no obligation consultation, wrinkle relaxation injections treat the targeted individual groups of muscle fibres around the face. There is very minimal pain so no local anaesthetic is required. Unlike most practitioners I adopt an alternative injection technique that greatly reduces the risk of bleeding and bruising compared to many other practitioners.
It is highly recommended that the wrinkle relaxation injections are performed by a skilled, qualified practitioner with extensive knowledge of facial anatomy, physiology and the interaction of facial elevators and depressors. Your face is the most important outward feature of your inner self. Therefore, at Edenmed Aesthetics and Rejuvenation clinics you will have time dedicated to discussion, review, assessment and planning of your individual requirements. Bear in mind that the best treatment(s) for your particular needs may be fillers, platelet rich plasma, PDO threads or other treatments.
